About Mpw
Wrestling is the most primitive, natural sport in the world. Wrestling provides quality body awareness, strength and balance that young athletes can carry with them throughout life.
It is the goal of Maine Premier wrestling to provide access to quality coaching and competition for young wrestlers throughout the state of Maine year round, to provide our wrestlers with a system and structure that they can carry with them to wherever else they may wrestle and to offer advanced wrestling practice to those looking to take the next step on their wrestling journey. In our practice we focus on highly structured drills and lots of positional development.
We focus on individualized technique and weekly repetition of positions, which leads to more quality practice time.
It is not our goal to prohibit the growth and development of this states young wrestlers. We encourage all wrestlers to seek out as many coaches and practice opportunities as possible in their time on the mat.
Coach Ross Spencer-
Originally from Connecticut, I have used my wrestling foundation daily in my adult life. After stepping away from wrestling for more than 8 years, I have found wrestling community here in Maine. I believe my time away from the mat has given me a perspective that helps me be a better coach. I have been a lifetime fan of watching wrestling and I feel like my wrestling knowledge grows each day.
Outside of wrestling I farm organic vegetables on less than 4 acres with my partner Janelle and our two dogs. For hobbies, I enjoy canoeing and I spent the better part of my 20s Rock Climbing.
What makes MPW Stand out
My system is based on what I have experienced and seen work. Everything is rooted in consistency. We want to create consistent drilling habits, consistent development, consistent access to training and competition.
There are many great options out there. We are one of many, Our system requires time and commitment. We do not show new techniques each practice, we do not spend half of our practice wrestling live developing bad habits.
I encourage you to reach out, ask questions, and perhaps stop in for a test practice, but again it takes time, getting better takes time, and creating consistency takes time.
